If you are currently addicted to drugs, then you may be feeling a lot of different emotions. However, you can seek help for your addiction. If you watch TV, then you might be watching some of the drug addicts portrayed on your favorite shows to see how they deal with being addicts and if they seek help for their addictions. There are three TV drug addicts you might want to know more about.
The title character of the TV show “House” is a drug addict as he is addicted to painkillers. The reason he starts using painkillers has to do with the fact that he had a surgery that left him with a lot of pain. As he dealt with the pain, he used painkillers and eventually became addicted to them. While the painkillers might ease the pain from the surgery, they certainly cause a whole new set of addiction issues for the character. What you can take away from this show is that it doesn’t matter why you started doing drugs. If you are facing an addiction, you can get help for it. You can learn to live a life free of drugs. There are other ways of dealing with pain than turning in to illegal drugs.
On the show “Nurse Jackie,” the title character is a drug addict and even uses her job in the hospital as a way to get the drugs she abuses. While it can be hard to comprehend that a person in such a professional position could become a drug addict, it does happen. The reason Jackie takes drugs is probably due to the personal issues she has in her life, and the drugs are most likely a crutch to help her deal with the issues that she can’t quite figure out how to face or fix. What you can learn from watching Jackie is that anyone can be an addict and that there is no shame in admitting what you are. In fact, you have to be willing to make this admission before you can truly heal and recover from drug abuse. However, once you admit that you have a problem, you can enter drug rehab and get access to counselors and therapists who can help you.
Another TV show that features a drug addict is “Elementary.” The main character is Sherlock Holmes, and he is a recovering addict. Like Jackie, he is very intelligent and holds a professional position. Sherlock begins using drugs because he wants to experiment, and he went through periods of boredom. While this might not seem like a great reason to start using drugs, this is exactly how a lot of teens first get started down this dangerous path. What you have to keep in mind is that once you start taking drugs, it can be hard to stop. If you are know, you are already a drug addict, you can look to Sherlock for inspiration. He completed rehab, he goes to 12 step meetings and he lives with a sober companion to help him stay clean. This should give you hope that you can live a sober life if you make the decision to do so. Like Sherlock, you need to find a more positive way to spend your time and then focus on the good work that you do.
As you watch these drug addicts on TV, keep in mind that TV shows do not realistically portray addiction, detox and rehab. Instead of trying to get the facts from fictional characters, make the decision to go to rehab and focus on yourself. You are worth saving.
